I saw an article by So Sze Wong 蘇施黃 saying fish imported from Japan is too dangerous for human consumption.

Is it true?????

Or is she simply misinforming the public???

Being someone so famous, I really wish she can provide more factual proof than just using her "mouth" to say it.  Her words are so influential that people will blindly believe it without thinking it twice.

There's been enough non-factual and way too exaggerated news from overseas media about this Fukushima nuclear plant accident.

What I am saying is that if the Hong Kong Health Department has issued a certificate to certify this product is safe and good for human consumption, why don't you believe your own government's safety screening?

There's a Melbourne physicist-foodie who investigated the radiation level of sake from Japan.  Look at the results and I hope it will open up your eyes and not be blindly folded by what the media is telling you.

So, going back to what I really wanted to blog!

My friend came to Tokyo in February for a concert of her favorite Japanese rock star.  Sorry, I have no interests in any other things apart from "FOOD".

This time, I took her to Kiyoshi (喜よし).

Amuse: Sea Urchin slow cooked in soy sauce. (Sweet~)
(Otoshi: Uni no tsukudani)

(Omakase no tsumami)
Chef's finger food recommendation

(Ainame no otsukuri)
Greenling Sashimi
Very tender.

(Sumiika)
Squid

So fresh!

(Awabi no shiomushi)
Abalone slow cooked in sea salt

Apart from my home-cooked abalone, this is the best I have ever tried outside.

Grilled Horse Mackerel

I know my girl would love that crispy skin.

Scallop wrapped in seaweed

Grilled congor

I love that 山椒 (Japanese pepper) on top.

So, let's stop here for the finger foods.

Next .... SUSHI!!!

ひらめ (hirame)
Flounder

So transparent!

Oval squid

(Kohada)
 Gizzard Shad

鯵 (aji)

Horse Mackerel

トロ (toro)
Fatty tuna

My dad's favourite!

ウニ (uni)
Sea urchin

My favourite!

I can't remember exactly what it was.  I think it was 蛤 (hamaguri) 貴妃蚌 .

To close off the deal, we had アナゴ (anago) congor sushi topped with loads of sweet sauce.

I was only 80% full but my wallet was 100% over budgeted!!!!!  Had to stop at that point.

I have no fear eating Japanese fish and in fact, I believe fish caught near 日本海 (Sea of Japan) or 九州 (Kyuushuu) is far safer than fish caught in China!
However, I do have fear going out to the city at night worrying I won't be able to come home in case of unplanned blackouts.

Yet, there is another sushi shop near my house where I have always been wanting to try.  It is 鮨たかはし (Sushi Takahashi).

Will anyone come along with me?

OMG! When I was busy writing the above note, my 2 years old girl drank up my tea!!!!!!!

Girl, you are still underage for this!!!!

3 Colours Donburi (三色丼) @ Home

Some mums are very good at making character "obento", "キャラ弁" in Japanese, (lunch boxes), e.g. Lunch boxes with characters from famous animations.

Sorry girls, this is the "best" your mum can do!!!

Three colors "donburi" (どんぶり rice bowl).

Veggies were leftover from last night's "namul".

However, I heard from a friend of mine that she was so happy her mum made a rice ball with a seaweed (海苔)cut out character pasted on top when she was in kindergarten...........

Should I try a little bit harder for my girls??????????????????  Let's think about it!

(Ganbappe! Iwaki)

Ganbappe! Iwaki!
(Meaning "You can do it!  Iwaki")

"Iwaki City"(いわきー磐城) is the largest city in Fukushima prefecture (福島県).  It is also my in-laws' hometown.  Its agriculture products' images were severely hurt by the bad reputation from the media where everything was deemed non-consumable.

Yet, those products which are well within the safety limits, where they are good for consuming, where they are not contaminated, were refused by the general public.

In light of telling the general public those products are good to "eat", Iwaki city will hold two farmers' markets in Tokyo as follow:

(You can do it Fukushima!)
Date & Time:

April 27 and April 28 (Wednesday and Thursday) from 11:00a.m. to 19:00p.m.
Venue:
At the concourse outside Tokyo Monorail Tenozu Isle Station's Central Exit
At Yurakucho's travel gate

(Let's be united Japan.)
Date & Time:
May 3rd - May 5th from 11.00 a.m. till 15.00 p.m.
Venue:

Fuji TV Building's 1st floor lobby

I am planning to go with my kids to purchase Iwaki products because that's probably the only thing I can do to help right now.

I will definitely ask Mr. Yim to tell his colleagues to participate because the first farmers' market is located right outside his office building!!!!  ha ha ha.....

Crowndaisy Chrysanthemum Vegetarian Fried Dumpling @ Home

Crowndaisy chrysanthemum (茼蒿菜) is one of my favorite veggies but hated by many others.  It has its distinctive smell which I totally adore, yet, not everybody thinks the same as me.

My kids love meat dumplings but not wanting them to gain too much weight and hoping them to eat more veggies, I made this vegetarian dumplings for a change.  To my surprise, both of them finished them with delight and was asking for more.

I used the excess flour dough for making spring onion pancakes (葱油餅).  "A" loved them so much but "C" couldn't even bare a single bite.  Next time, perhaps I should add more "lard" into the spring onion pancakes to enhance its result..... (ummmm..... better not, too fatty!!!)

Girls's day celebration 2011 @ Home

I haven't posted my home cooking pictures for a while already.  It was largely due to the shock from the 3.11 quake which subsequently renamed as Higashi Nihon Daishinsai

Now, Tokyo is back to its previous state, I am going to move forward with my life and continue to support Japan by "spending money"!!!!!  Largely on FOOD, of course!

Nippon Gabare!!!

It was March 3rd that I always celebrate Hinamatsuri (Girl's day) with my girls.

I made the "usual" ちらしずし (Chirashizushi) for them.

Together with the clam clear soup.

Finished with the Hinamatusri sweets

Since it was the rapeseed flower season (菜の花 Nanohana ), I made this cold appetizer as a salad.  Nanohana with shabu shabu kurobuta 黒豚 and drizzled with homemade sesame dressing.

Last year's Hinamatsuri was like this.  What should I make next year?

Bistrot 13 @ Nakameguro 中目黒 (French Bistro)

Had a great time at Nakameguro!

Celeriac Salad and Potato Salad.
Both were very decent.
The dinner rolls were superb!

I love pork belly.....  The fatty layers are just the type of meat I always crave for!  (Forget about cholesterol once in a while).

White liver pate and Canelé.  Canelé was served steamy hot!  Watch out and don't burn your tongue!

I got to order this Ishigakijima Island (石垣島) Ginger Ale on-line!  Great stuff!  Encore!
